Halifax away – Sat 21st July. My word, that sounds like an invitation to drink Theakstons to me! 10:30 Train from Victoria. Then stay out in Manchester on the way back *wakes from daydream * . If only I was 25 years younger and carefree.
Do they still play at the Shay with the speedway track around it ????
They do still play at the Shay. Not sure if the track round the pitch is still there. A club on their way back and good luck to them.
Had many a good pint in the Shay during my speedway sabbatical, enjoyed it but didn’t compare with footy, just been on their website and if it’s the same one my god it’s changed. undercover seating for 3500. I can remember standing in the freezing rain but still loving it. (no seats in those days)
One point to note it’s been taken over the Local Authority. Anybody from SMBC reading this????
Perhaps we may have stood side by side at the Shay vicman I used to go there with Bellvue aces.
That,s how I started too MA. Peter Collins, Chris Morton, Alan Wilkinson, Paul Tyrer and Soren Sjosten to name but a few. Heady days eh?
What about the greatest, vicman……Ivan Mauger>>>????
Sorry mate would have to say Peter Craven, greatest Belle Vue rider ever,if you can find some old footage he was THE original leg trailer, (even though he was before my time). I’m not for one minute knocking Mauger but for sheer excitement and adrenalin the award has to go to Peter Collins. That guy had no fear, watched him develop at Rochdale Hornets and second half performances at Belle Vue.
PS by the time I started at Belle Vue Ivan had gone to Exeter
