Macclesfield knocked Stockport County out of the Cheshire Senior Cup last night – does anyone care? Not really.

Looking at the two teams probably tells you all you need to know about the clubs priorities and how they view small silly local Football Assocation trophies that truthfully nobody cares about.

Macclesfield had the likes of Holroyd and Mackreth starting whilst County played a mixture of reserve and youth players, with two first teamers returning from injury in the team.

For anyone that is interested the game finished 1-0.
Onto Saturday, Southend away?

Didn’t even know the game had happened. Shucks. Southend in the cup – another one listening to PURE 107.8 FM for me!

A bit harsh mate. I agree that the competition as such is not going to set the world alite. however it is an opportunity for clubs like County who dont take part in a reserve league to give fringe players a game so that coaching staff can assess their progress. Then there are the minor clubs in the competition who look forward to the chance of playing a “bigger club”. On Saturday we will be hoping to progress and play a “bigger club”. Its also the sort of game that scouts thrive on.

Definitely a little harsh, agree with you NE it’s games like this that give the younger and less experienced players a shot at promoting themselves in front of the gaffer and the fans who do care. As you say are we not doing this tomorrow against Southend. We are not expected to progress any further but it may promote one or two of our players to the attention of life outside BSP football not that we want to lose any but it’s called progress and I have to say that I find the “who cares” attitude a little frustrating. But, everybody has their opinion.
