Mission (Im)possible…?

County travel to Swindon tomorrow night, and most fans are now tentatively hoping for A ‘Great Escape Part 2’ after Saturday’s victory over Exeter.

The Hatters lie 12 points from safety with 15 games remaining, and as Gary Ablett said recently, the points are still there to play for.

Meanwhile, American winger Jemal Johnson, match-winner on Saturday in a woeful match, has spoken about his happiness at being with County, after joining on a 6 month loan deal from MK Dons last month.

Vital Quotes:

‘Stockport’s such a family club. It’s good for me to be around people like this, especially being from up north.’

‘A lot of my friends are up here, and my little girl is too.’

‘It was a no-brainer for me to be up here. There were a lot of things outside of football that made my decision.’

‘But I’m happy now. I’m playing football, week in, week out, getting my minutes in, and that’s what you need.’

Gary Ablett: ‘The goings-on off the field have been well documented, but there’s nothing we can do about them.’

‘We’ve tried to stay in control of what we do on the field. We haven’t done it particularly well, I have to say, but that’s not been for the want of trying on the players’ part.’

‘We’re in the position we’re in for a reason. We haven’t been good enough, and we haven’t been able to see games through.’

‘That’s probably the first time all season that we’ve won ugly. We didn’t play anywhere near the level that we wanted to in terms of passing the ball.’

Swindon Team News:

Ex-County loanee Gordon Greer is a doubt for the match after falling on his ankle in the 2-0 win over Carlisle on Saturday, and the current Town skipper has rested since then in the hope of being fit for tomorrow’s battle.

Player to watch: Charlie Austin

Austin is on the verge of an England U-21 call-up, and as far as that goes, it’ll show whether he’ll sink or swim at a higher level, but he’s definitely a massive threat after scoring for fun since a summer move from Poole Town.

County Team News:

Matty Mainwaring and Luca Havern remain the only long-term absentees, though Mainwaring edges closer to a return with each week, while Havern is out all season with that worrying heart problem.

Jemal Johnson went off on Saturday and looked knackered, though he should be fit for tomorrow.

Player to watch: Owain fon Williams

The Welshman has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons lately, making a few mistakes and not exactly being helped by the jeering of a few of the County fans.

Made two spectacular saves to help us grab the three points at Exeter on Saturday and can prove his worth with a strong performance tomorrow.

You gave us a decent run for your money at Edgeley Park. You’re improving so hopefully it will be a decent encounter.

We are improving but still a point at Swindon would go down as a very good point indeed.

A point tonight and then defeat Wycombe on Saturday and I can see us avoiding last place.
