Ex Stockport County manager Sammy McIlroy has moved to sign Stockport County midfielder Damien Allen after Allen has fallen out of contention at County.

Allen’s contract ran out at the end of last season, and Jim Gannon decided not to renew the deal despite Allen impressing during his loan spell with Manchester United feeder club Royal Antwerp.

Gannon went to watch Allen in his last game at Antwerp, but Allen did not do enough to earn a new contract at Edgeley Park.

Allen has undertake a few trials at lower league clubs, aswell as going back over to Antwerp to see whether he could earn a permanent deal there.

However Sammy McIlroy has now decided he will take Allen on, and Allen will sign if all the paperwork is correct and he passes his medical soon.

Speaking about the deal Sammy McIlroy said: ‘He is a good lad who will do a good job – and he is only 21 so it’s one for those who say we are old men.’

We would like to wish Damien all the best in his future career paths and thank him for his efforts at Stockport County in the past few seasons.
