County manager Gary Ablett has revealed after County’s 3-1 pre season defeat to Real Valladolid that Michael Ricketts will NOT become a County player, and Josh Thompson has signed for Celtic.

Ricketts was on trial with County for the past week, but after failing to find match fitness for the match at Linfield and tonight’s home tie, an unimpressed Ablett has ended the former Bolton striker’s trial.

Meanwhile, Josh Thompson has finally sealed his move to Celtic in a deal worth £500k for the Hatters. VitalStockport broke the news first last week, and Thommo has finally signed on the dotted line with the Bhoys.

* County were defeated 3-1 by a strong Valladolid side tonight in front of 1900+ at Edgeley Park. Gianluca Havern headed the Hatters in front on the 20 minute mark, but Valladolid hit back and former Man Utd striker Manucho capped the fightback with a superb effort from the tightest of angles that had the Cheadle End applauding.

Former Carlisle manager John Ward was sat in the County dugout tonight, and will be named new assistant manager tomorrow.

With money from the Josh sale it seems we can afford getting Ward on board. He knows the lower leagues inside out. I think that is the big plus in my book last night. Saw my mate Norman as well, still doing a good job for the club.
