The recently launched players fund has brought in it’s first player, England ‘C’ international Andy Owens from Telford.

Owens at 6′ 3′ can play any where down the left hand side of the pitch and also as a target man up front.

It is rumoured that the player has a monster of throw-in – an attribute in a County player I can’t remember for quite a few years now. Owens signs for a month (initially at least)

A couple of things spring to mind with this news.

1. We get a body in when the squad was looked very thin. Utility is an over-used term but it looks like Owens can fulfill a number of positions

2. This signing is a clear demonstration of the power of the fans who have donated into the ‘Players Fund’.

This is a fantastic initiative and a nice article appeared in the M.E.N. over the summer here

This funding stream is ring-fenced and is not part of the Help The Hatters fund (which receive site profits from this site as I may have mentioned once of twice – visit here and Help The Hatters!).

To read up on Andy Owens the official site has a good article here http://www.stockportcounty.com/news/article/county-sign-owens-2067980.aspx

Vital County wish Andy Owens all the best at his stint at County and look forward to the Players Fund continuing to grow and contribute further players as the season progresses!

Come on the Players Fund and come on County!
