Poll: Owen and Williams in defence?

Results of our most recent poll are now in, aswell as news of our next poll here on Vital Stockport.

With a lot of injuries to defenders and people who can play in defence, County have been a bit short in the last few weeks.

Ashley Williams, Gareth Owen, Rob Clare and Matty McNeil have all been out injured – and Williams and Owen are the usual centre half partnership.

However Williams and Owen are now back in full training, and were going to play a part in tomorrow’s Manchester Senior Cup game against Manchester City – but the game was postponed due to rain (it hasn’t rained in ages in leafy Cale Green).

So with most defenders fit (apart from Clare – but he hasn’t been fit for donkeys years) and ready to go for the Chesterfield game we thought it was time to close the poll.

We asked you: Who should partner Ash in defence upon his return?

And the results are

Michael Raynes – 12%
Gareth Owen – 70%
Matty McNeil – 10%
James Tunnicliffe – 8%

So according to the readers of Vital Football, Gareth Owen and Ashley Williams should form the partnership at the heart of the defence.

On the other hand though, and I do agree with the initial results, with the continued good performances of stand in skipper Michael Raynes at centre half – aswell as the brilliant debut from Jim McNulty, will it still be Ash and Gaz in defence on their return?

We shall wait and see!

Following County’s recent upturn in results (four straight wins) – we are now looking at where you think County will finish (yes again!) this season? The last time we did it Jim Gannon was under pressure and there were thoughts that we might even face a relegation battle.

However now we are back in contention for the play-offs, and we are asking where you think County will finish.
