Sloppy Journalism Riles Tooting

County’s official site have succeeded in firing up the Tooting & Mitcham squad for Saturday’s tough FA Cup encounter – by dubbing the side ‘Tootingham’!

Tooting came through an FA Cup Replay with Eastbourne by defeating the Conference side 4-3, and big defender Matt York – who slotted home two penalties in the famous victory for The Terrors – says that the blunder has acted as a team-talk for the squad.

York said: ‘As soon as the draw was made we looked at Stockport’s website and they had us down as Tootingham.

“It doesn’t say much for respect when they cannot even spell your name properly.

“But we will treat it as just another game in terms of the way we play.

“Yes it is a massive deal for us but if we go there and play the way we have recently then we are more than capable of an upset.”

And County boss Gary Ablett has been talking up the London side as well recently, saying that the tie ‘is a very big game’ for the out-of-sorts Hatters.

Ablett said: ‘If we approach the game against Tooting like we did on Saturday I think we’ll win the game. If we don’t and we allow them to get a foothold in the game then we’ll find it very tough. We’ve got to go out and perform and if we do that with the same intensity, desire and character that we showed on Saturday then I think we’ll be OK. If we show the same desire and application then I think we’ll win the game because I think we’ll have more quality than them. But it’s a big game for us. It’s a really big game.’

* County have received a boost with the news that on loan Chelsea midfielder Liam Bridcutt will be available for selection after his parent club allowed him to play. County are still waiting to hear back from Reading and Leeds on Nicholas Bignall and Paul Huntington.
