Stockport County have appointed Stuart Watkiss as assistant manager to Darije Kalezic.

They have both been announced as three-month contracts at a press conference hosted by CEO Ryan McKnight yestserday.

Kalezic spoke of Stockport County as a ‘sleeping giant’ and announced his intent to assess every player and ensure they do more training on the ball.

Watkiss praised the County fans and stated he had been to Edgeley Park many times as a player, coach and manager and even spoke of his tough battles with County legend Brett Angel.

Watkiss played as a defender for Wolves, Crewe, Walsall, Hereford and finally Mansfield. He went on to manage Mansfield, Kidderminster and Grimsby aswell as being involved in the youth system at Barnsley, Mansfield and Hull City.

Watkiss and Kalezic will take charge of their first game against Nuneaton on Saturday.
