Cambridge Result, Macc next and more

Another apology in advance for this slightly rushed and unstructured Vital County article. A fair bit of news over the past few days, starting with County’s 1-1 draw with Cambridge.

Now, leaving Edgeley Park after the 2-1 defeat to Gateshead last week wasn’t a particularly uplifting moment but I felt much more frustrated after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cambridge United.

This was a game where County should have won given the number of chances on goal and the overall poor display from the opposition.

County lined up liked this;

Ormson, Newton, O’Donnell, Tunnicliffe, Fagbola (Halls – 77′ ), Connor, Kenyon, Nolan, Whitehead (Rowe – 76′ ), Hobson, Darkwah (Collins – 90′ )

And yes, that is Cameron Darkwah who was ‘out the door’ last week. It transpired that Piergianni has indeed gone but Darkwah was given a new deal. To my surprise Darkwah played very well indeed, showing plenty of pace and not a little skill and was responsible for winning the penalty on 30 minutes. A penalty that Newton dispatched. At this point thoughts began to turn to just how many County could win by. Three nil anybody?

Just seven minutes later though and we were back to square one after a bad mistake from Ormson who should have launched the ball out into the street but dallied and was tackled by Cambridge forward Berry who then stroked the ball into an empty net. Always tough for keepers when they make a mistake, just hope the lads confidence does not get dented (we will see who is in nets tonight).

At this point many of us still fancied County to go on an win but it was not to be. I think we missed Hattersley (broke nose vs Telford I think) but there is no getting away from the fact we dropped two points from this game. Middle-8 tier side indeed.

The gate of 3060 was poor and less than the Friday night Gateshead attendance. Many folk away on holiday?

Now, onto those signings. Jim Gannon sounded pretty certain there was ‘no chance’ of any new players coming in just 7 days ago. We lost Piergianni which I guess freed up some wages and gained Darkwah until January but also County signed Lancaster’s Alex Meaney who many will tell you looks a very good prospect. Meaney signed for a 4 month period. Worth also noting Sunderland young keeper Lewis King is with County for 4 months too.

Where did the money come from to sign these players? Help the Hatters by all accounts but if you believe some rumours the money may have come from the pocket of YTYT Leader John Fitzpatrick. Jim wants and Jim gets?

Onto tonight’s game with Macclesfield. Part of the Macclesfield fanbase have built this fixture up to be a big deal. A Cheshire derby with a bit of needle. I don’t know about you but I quite like Macc and cannot get enthused in the same way playing Burnley for example got the juices flowing. I just hope for a 4,000+ gate, a free flowing end to end game and a County win.

By six goals to nil!

Come on the County Boys!
