County v Telford – Spoils Shared

County played out a creditable 2-2 draw at Telford on Monday. I listened to most of the game (in my kitchen, but in the home end so to speak via BBC Radio Shropshire) so apologies if this ‘stub’ of an article is wide of the mark. From what I can gather ( and anyone who attended please comment or mail stockport@vitalfootball.co.uk) this young County side did well to fend off an attacking Telford outfit and gave a decent account of themselves. The BBC match report here shows County with 50% of possession and Telford with an impressive 17 attempts at goal which seems to back up my armchair assessment.

The last 20 minutes saw both sides going for the win, this after County had taken the lead on two occasions – both goals scored by young Danny Whitehead. Do we have a new star in the making?
Here is what I have unearthed about Danny.

‘Stretford lad Danny joined the Hatters aged 14 and was a regular scorer for the U18s in 09/10, despite still being a schoolboy at the time.

He was named on the bench for the first team against Accrington Stanley in March 2011, and made his first-team debut as a sub against Fleetwood in September that year.

He scored his first senior goal a week later, in a 2-2 draw at Cambridge. The following April he signed a new deal to keep him at Edgeley Park until 2014.’

County’s line up was as follows;

Ormson, Newton, Connor, Tunnicliffe (O’Donnell 63), Whitehead, Kenyon (Hobson 75), Hattersley, Sheridan (Nolan 51), Piergianni, Rowe, Fagbola

I was a little surprised to see Piergianni included given is desire to move. I expected Jim to freeze him out before he moves on but perhaps all is not lost with Piergianni – I for one think he will be an asset for the club if we can keep hold of him.

After Jims last podcast where he seemed to be less than happy, here is a bit more optimistic post match Mr. Gannon.

So, 5 games gone, 2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw and 12th place. Not too shabby a start. Can we inch up the table? Cambridge at home this Saturday, 3pm will be our next chance to impress against another ‘middle 8’ side.

Come on the County Boys!

    Jim asks the board to see if they can help keep Piergianni, although he says he understands and accepts the health of the business comes before the health of the team, do I detect a tiny amount of needle? I wonder if we via YTYT could help secure Pidge for this season?

    Played some good stuff at times but we certainly rode our luck and we were given an absolute gift of a goal. The home fans gave Newton a hard time and in the 2nd half it appeared to get to him a bit. As the game entered the latter stages both teams tired and the play became ragged. Every County player gave max effort and looked absolutly knackered at the end. We gave the lead away twice but hey, an away point i’ll take it.

    NE, thanks again for another away game summary. I’ll get to a couple of away games this season (Macc and Hyde most likely) . Feel free to mail in (or write for the site). I’m here until the ed gets back from his hols!

    Good to see you back cropped. Lets hope we have a good couple of wins at home tomorrow and Tuesday. Do we still trust in Jim?????

    I trust Jim won’t throw his toys out if the emergency board meeting (today?) brings bad news on the financial side. All just rumours…maybe we have got a Euro millions winner on board now!
