Stockport County youth team have won the Youth Alliance Cup after beating Colchester United 6-2 at Edgeley Park last evening.

Paul Turnbull gave County the lead after collecting a Tommy Rowe cross and smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Martin Smeaton then doubled County`s lead minutes later when he lobbed the Colchester keeper after a great ball from Gianluca Havern.

Smeaton again got on the scoresheet seconds later when he drilled home to make it 3-0 to County.

Olusanya pulled a goal back for the U`s 15 minutes into the second half, making it 3-1 to County with half an hour left.

But Greg Tansey, who has been in the first team for the last two games, curled a beautiful free kick around the wall and into the top corner to make it 4-1 to County.

A handball against Gianluca Havern gave Colchester a chance from the penalty spot, and Wordsworth converted from the spot to make it 4-2.

Sensationally County scored again, with an absolute wonder goal from Greg Tansey. Chipping the keeper from the edge of the area, and if this was Wayne Rooney then the media would be creaming themselves.

Havern finished off the rout with a bullet header from a Tommy Rowe corner.

So despite missing out on the youth title on Saturday, the lads picked themselves up and won a trophy to make the season a good one. Hopefully the first team will take note of this and raise their game too for a huge game at Darlington.

Congratulations to Craig Madden and the youth team, who have been fantastic this season.
