County off the pitch, better news?

Whilst County fans are rightly concerned with the plight of the club on the pitch, are things off the pitch beginning to improve?

After the ‘death threat’ statements from Lord Snape and the backlash from an irritated fan base there looked to be a chasm as wide as the M60 opening up between the board and the supporters.

Since then have things changed? Are the board actively trying to build bridges? We have heard no more volcanic rumblings from LPS but what we have had is a succession of positive announcements.

We have had Thank you to supporters – cheap coach travel to away games and then Cheap tickets for our final home game (Dartford) and now the start of fortnightly Boardroom News series.

Well, how refreshing. I do hope this boardroom news series does not fizzle out. There is quite a bit of good news in ‘episode one’ – plenty of sensible cost cutting.

County’s share of the EP electricity bill cut. Huge reduction in the rates bill secured. Accountancy charges slashed. And my favourite:

‘A saving of £8,000 has been made on waste collection with a local contractor. We found that we had been charged for the emptying of ’empty` bins since November !’

Why did that last one not surprise me. Anyway, if this is an example of Ryan McKnights’ 360 degree best practice (off the pitch) then more please. ‘Get in our kid’ (as I imagine they say around Ryans neck of the woods).

There are also steps being made to drive up revenues and a tie-up with Stockport College with a view to setting up a County academy for kids 7 ears old and upwards.

It is not just the board who are pushing things forward either. The announcement of the inception of the One Supporters Group, whereby all fans groups come together as one is surely a welcome one and I
hope to be able to announce soon that this site, and readers of this site, will be helping out too.

And of course thank the Lord and Bogie for what I hope will be a stable and successful management team in the months to come.

Can’t knock any of that.

Dark clouds? None.

Well apart from our Conference National status.
Oh, and the fear our squad of players will become a part-time.
And that nagging suspicion that Edgeley Park will be lost one day (whatever happened to the announcement that EP’s future would be sorted out with SMBC being involved?).

So there we have it. My best attempt at being a happy blue and white bunny.

As ever, if you feel you would like to write for this site then please email stockport@vitalfootball.co.uk. Match reporters, preview analysts, trip down memory lane writers – all welcome.

Won’t matter a fig if we go down. Consensus amongst my drinking buddies is we’ve had it. What will the future bring?
