Alfreton V County – The Vital Preview.

So, it really is getting to crunch time now. What with Southport winning in mid-week and Barrow eking out another point, County’s situation in the bottom 4 is becoming alarming. Still three points against ‘The Reds’ of Alfreton Town would be a giant step towards safety. Off to North Street then (capacity 3,600 – 1500 of which are seats) with some of the blue and white army taking advantage of the subsidised coaches now doubt.

So, how have Alfreton Town been doing recently? A look at the form guide shows 3 wins and two defeats from their last five games and their last result was an impressive two – nil win at Southport.

Tricky.

And of course a glance at the Conference table tells us County are the lowest scoring away side in the league so far this season. Cannot see that stat changing either. Once again I think we will have to keep a clean sheet to get anything out of this game.

Looking for positives, John Macken will have had a few days rest and should be getting sharper each game. Also, Alfreton with 51 points from 41 games I think are all but safe and their remaining fixtures with just the one away game look decent. So I hope they have a little bit of ‘on the beach’ mentality setting in.

I am going to predict a tense nil-nil draw, and looking at Saturdays fixture list we will probably still end the day in 21st. We may then be left with winning at Gateshead and winning at home to Dartford to stay up. Or maybe beating Dartford at home and getting a point at Gateshead and something from Kidderminster away.

Our fate this season is coming into focus.

Get yer blue and white prayer mats out.

What a good time for a central defender to power home from a corner. Or a fluky own-goal. Or maybe a wind-assisted goal from the keeper. Anything will do. Come on the County boys!
