Fantastic County dominate Wycombe

County carried on where Chelsea left off, as Wycombe were once again dominated by the stronger home team.

Jim Gannon named the same side that had beat Boston United and Peterborough United in the last two weeks, and it was probably the first time that County had named the same starting line up for three consecutive weeks for years!

Rumours were flying around EP that Stuart Pearce was among a number of Premiership scouts looking at Jermaine Easter, haha, they are wasting their time!

Jason Taylor had the Cheadle End on their feet in the first few minutes, when he followed up a block and hammered a strike towards the bottom corner. Batista got a hand to it though as it was heading for the bottom corner, and County took the corner.

County were carving Wycombe apart every time they got the ball, and when David Poole put a perfect cross across the box all that was needed was a touch from Elding or Pilkington, but a slight deflection from a Wycombe defender managed to just put the ball out of reach for both of them .

Anthony Elding got payback on the Wycombe defence from the following corner though, and he rose perfectly and met Stephen Gleeson’s fantastic corner to head into the net. 1-0 to County.

County were really dominating, and Gleeson put another corner in, for the ball to come out to the edge of the area to Pilkington. He had time to control the ball, but his shot was way off target and ended up closer to the corner flag than the goal.

Wycombe had their first attempt on goal after about 35 minutes of the game, but it was just a speculative 30 yard effort from Tommy Moaner, easily saved by Hennessey.

County should have doubled the lead moments later, when a County counter attack was slowed right down after Rose had realised nothing was on in the box. He passed the ball back out into the middle to Gleeson, who chipped perfectly for Elding, who headed into the path of Proudlock. One on one from six yards out and he hits it straight at the keeper! How did Proudlock miss it, you would have put your house on him scoring, but somehow the score stayed at 1-0. If that would have gone in, it would have been right up there with one of the best goals I’ve seen County score passing wise!

Half time came and County were given a standing ovation off the field. When the teams came back out, it seemed to take a while for County to come out, but Wycombe were out with just eight players on the pitch, and they were to make three half time substitutions. One of those going off was Jermaine Easter, who had done absolutely nothing and hopefully that would show the Blackburn and City scouts how rubbish he is.

But the triple substitution couldn’t stop the County dominance, and straight from kick off County attacked, Elding found Poole with a great through ball, and Poole passed it across the goal for Gleeson to tap into an empty net. It was so so easy, and it was 2-0 to County.

Elding could have got his second of the afternoon, when he found himself with the ball after poor pass from Golbourne. He would have been one-on-one, but he wasn’t expecting it, and so had to get his shot away earlier than he probably would have liked, and it flew over the bar.

Tommy Mooney had another speculative effort, and again it didn’t trouble Hennessey as it flew wide of the post.

Michael Rose tried to replicate his free kick at Peterborough last weekend, and he did bend the ball around the wall but it was easily saved by Baptista.

Anthony Pilkington and Anthony Elding were then both given standing ovations off the pitch, as Tes Bramble and Adam Griffin were brought on to replace the two.

And Bramble nearly scored with his first touch, when Griffin played the ball where Bramble wanted it, Bramble tried to slot it past the keeper with his left foot, but it clipped the post and went wide.

Adam Proudlock was then replaced by Liam Dickinson, as Jim Gannon perhaps had half a mind on the task in hand at Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Dickinson nearly got himself on the score sheet, when Bramble played a great ball across the box, much like the one Gleeson scored off, but it just beat Dickinson’s outstretched leg.

Finally, County wasted one more set piece from the right hand side, as Rose tried to swing it in and much to the disappointment of the Gareth Owen and Ashley Williams who had both gone up for it, it flew straight over the bar.

The referee blew up, and did Wycombe look like a team above County? Definitely not.

County know that a win of any sort at Wrexham will see us move up to 6th place above Wycombe, and six points clear of 8th place.

If your considering going, then go, and if your not considering going, then also go! Let’s get as many there as possible and create a real atmosphere for the lads to perform again!

Yes what a win, we need to get rid of Notts County because they lost today so County are clear of them

Best performance I have seen from the lads this season. The result was never in doubt and to be honest we should have won by 4 goals. AE and AP up front look a great combination. Jason Taylor may be snapped up by a bigger club in the close season I reckon. He looks a real prospect. Decent wonga and a sell on clause will sweeten that btter pill.
