German Rescues Point For County

Striker Antonio German handed Didi Hamann’s side a point at Telford today as he got off the mark in the County shirt.

In an uninspiring first forty-five minutes, the hosts just shaded it as The Hatters found it difficult to make their mark on the tie – but ‘keeper Matty Glennon played his part in ensuring it was 0-0 at that interval.

Glennon, though, could do nothing about Telford taking the lead just four minutes into the second half when right-back Andy Halls appeared to clip the heels of Andy Brown, with the referee controversially pointing to the spot.

Sean Newton hammered home the spot-kick with ex-Huddersfield man Glennon helpless.

But former QPR youngster German, who had been largely anonymous in the first half in truth, hauled the visitors level three minutes later when he collected the ball halfway into the home side’s half before skipping past Stuart Whitehead on the edge of the box and rifling his effort into the corner.

Glennon was then the main man for the remainder as he kept County in it with a string of wonderful saves as we came under the kosh at the hands of the Bucks.

Craig Farrell seemed certain to hand the Hatters their second defeat of the season, but his close range effort in the 87th minute was spectacularly clawed away by the veteran ‘keeper.

And it was almost SCFC who completed the smash-and-grab when Sean McConville smashed in a shot from a tight angle in the dying minutes which fizzed just over Ryan Young’s goal.

It’s a 6th draw in 8 for Hamann and County, with one loss and one defeat rounding off the form guide.

We sit comfortably (for now) mid-table with, generally, the side still gelling.

And for the fans, tomorrow may prove to be much more important as Tony Evans goes before the board of shareholders and directors to find out if his bid to take a majority stake in the club has been accepted.

As of around 9pm tonight, the latest from the Manchester Evening News was that Evans bid was indeed going to be accepted.

Hope you are right about Evens Edgeley. About this young kid German – I really expect great things at this level from him. Sure we will get better over then next 4 or five games and turn these 1-1’s into 1-0 or 2-1. Come on (the new) County!

We play far too narrow. The midfield turning themselves inside out because there isnt an out ball in particular a wide option. Telford constantly used their width but fortunately could not capitalise on it because Glennon and our full backs played well and their crossing was poor. Chadwick tries hard but he is not the man to lead our attack. I would like to see Tom Elliot given a run of games. German was more effective when Elliot came on. I think Blackburn is turning out to be an excellent signing.

Thanks for the report NE. Still early days and all things being equal OFF the pitch, I am cautiously optimistic about this season. A flirt with the play-off positions would be nice.
