Grimsby Town beat Stockport County 2-1 at Edgeley Park tonight to advance to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Final.

Grimsby took the lead in the second half when a long range effort from Jamie Clarke was punched up in the air by Conrad Logan, but it fell back down into the goal.

County were back level moments later when Anthony Pilkington cut inside from a short corner and fired home an effort, Grimsby keeper Barnes got a weak hand and could only push it to the inside of the post.

But with ten minutes to go Grimsby took the lead when a cross from Hegarty came in and Michael Raynes sliced the clearance into the back of his own goal to hand Grimsby the win.

With the game ending in snow it was a sad finish to a good campaign for County in the JPT, but Grimsby will now go on to face Morecambe in the Northern Final after Morecambe beat Bury 2-0.

Didn’t go but seems a bit of a miserable evening. Concentrate on making those play-ofs!

The second goal was Taylors fault – why does Gannon play him at right back? He just wasn’t tracking back. Smith was doing fine there.

Seriously gutted after last night. Elding made more of an effort than in recent weeks, but was still less than average. Tunni and Raynes. Never. Again. Give McNulty a go at centre half. Hopefully the players will not be deflated and will bounce back and take us to Wembley anyway!
