So, the Stockport Express have ran with an ‘exclusive’ interview with Cheshire Sports owner Brian Kennedy, in which he apparently hints at Sale Sharks breaking away from Edgeley Park to move to a ground that has the ‘suitable facilities for Premiership Rugby.’

Kennedy, speaking to the Stockport Express, said: ‘We need better facilities to give our loyal fans and future supporters a great match-day Rugby Union experience.’

So, there’s the ‘hint’.

This hint probably being nothing more than a veiled warning to the Council that Kennedy’s putting money in for wages each year and recouping little. Because in the very next sentence, he goes on to say…

‘We can achieve this by either the development of Edgeley Park or with the encouragement and help of the local authorities and fellow entrepreneurs to build a new purpose-built stadia in whichever borough council can be accommodated.’

And sneaking in at the very end…

‘Please contact me if this inspires you to get involved.

So the message is there Stockport Council, either way – through building a new stadium without County, or developing EP (yeah, right) – Brian Kennedy wants your help. So off you’ll go running back to him. But just remember, there is actually another club in the middle of this. Hmm, they play in blue and white, lot of youngsters around here follow them. No, not City, although you contrive to bend over backwards for them whenever you can as well.

So let’s see if you’ve actually got the balls to stand up to Mr Kennedy and to help the club that actually is a part of YOUR borough, not a Rugby club from Cheshire…

I doubt it.
