Clark Keen On Fon

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark has reportedly listed County stopper Owain fon Williams as his number one choice as a replacement for the likely departure of England keeper Alex Smithies.

fon Williams, who caught Clark’s eye in the 0-0 draw at the Galpharm a few weeks back, was close to leaving County in the summer on a free as the crisis with administration deepened, but as new boss Gary Ablett took over he was persuaded to stay.

But fon Williams has attracted the interest of a number of clubs as County have slipped down the table recently, and depending on the ownership issue of the club, we understand that Williams could be making way in January if the price is right.

The Welsh keeper has gone on record a number of times saying how he is enjoying his time with the Hatters but that he ‘is always looking to improve.’

Huddersfield, along with other clubs waiting the wings such as Sunderland and Swansea, will be more than happy to take the 22-year old off County’s hands – fon Williams will be just the latest in a significant list of County players and ex-players to be linked with The Galpharm club. Danny Pilkington, Dom Blizzard, and Michael Raynes have all been linked with the Yorkshire club over the past year, added to Anthony Pilkington signing for Clark’s men in January and ex-striker Liam Dickinson spending a loan spell at the club. Blizzard eventually joined Bristol Rovers, while Dickinson signed for L1 rivals Brighton in the summer in a £300k move.

Thanks Terriers… although if you are not in the market for him I suspect there is a strong possibility we may NEED to sell him to someone in Jan.
