Paul Simpson slams ‘suicidal’ County

County manager Paul Simpson has accused his team of ‘committing suicide` after our five-match unbeaten run finally came to an end against Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Paul Turnbull had given the Hatters a first-half lead, but that was as good as it got for Simpson`s men as a number of individual mistakes ensured Burton maintained their unbeaten start at the Pirelli Stadium.
Greg Tansey`s loose ball forced Danny Swailes to bring down Jacques Maghoma and County keeper Matty Glennon did brilliantly to turn away the resulting Aaron Webster free-kick. County`s joy however was short-lived as the same man was on hand to head home the corner that followed.
And matters were made worse for County, as less than five minutes later Webster headed in yet another corner and the Hatters, who had come from two goals down to draw 2-2 in their previous two league games could not repeat that same feat on a third straight occasion.
‘`I think we definitely deserved to be ahead in the first half and I thought we started the second half well.
But unfortunately we committed suicide with rubbish play in the middle of midfield and we allowed them the chance to get hold of the game.
It was tippy-tappy stuff in a period of the game where you have to turn teams around and put it in behind them, but we chose not to do that and we gave them the chance to get hold of the game.
It was careless. We were trying to play in the wrong areas. I`m all for trying to play football but there are right and wrong areas and the right and wrong times in games, and that was the wrong time in the wrong area.
It gave them a chance; they got a bit of momentum and a lift and it gave the home crowd something to shout about.“
Simpson will no doubt be concerned about his defence which has leaked an alarming number of goals in recent weeks.
County have now conceded 20 goals in all competitions so far this season and in the process have kept just three clean-sheets, two of which came on the road during wins against Oxford United and Macclesfield Town.
The manager will hope for a vast improvement in time for his side`s next league two match which is away to Gillingham next Saturday.

Come on Paul, you what is wrong an you are not doing much about it. You have been saying for weeks what we needed but I don’t see anything happening on the transfer front. Their are plenty of decent players out there. Is it perhaps that they don’t want to come in and play for you???? What happened to using your contacts within the game, as you stated some weeks ago.
I can’t understand why other teams seem to be signing players but County can’t or wont. Surely you need to speculate to accumulate. Sort it out or the fans will turn against you and this new board.

Hey Mazzaron, can we be sure there is money there for Simpson? It is odd when it is blindingly obvious to most of us what the problems are that we have not strengthened with a couple of loanees. Barnet at home in a couple of weeks. Press the alarm is we cant break our EP duck with that game.

Hi Kid Charlemagne, yes there is money available. These are Simmo’s own words. He let 3 players go a couple of weeks ago, this in turn made money available for new signings. I can’t understand why he has not used it to bring a couple of decent loanees in. Don’t forget that some of the new signings which he says are not performing are his signings. He brought them in at the beginning of the season. Lets hope that he improves the quality of players at the club, otherwise we will be looking at relegation come the end of the season.

Over 18 months ago, someone who knows a thing or two about County and whom I regard very highly said to me that we would be relegated out of the league come season 2010-11. I still think we will survive but if there is money available then just what is it preventing Simpson from strengthening the squad? Dont players fancy him as gaffer?

Paul Simpson told me after the game against Shrewsbury Town at the end of August that he was ‘perfectly happy with team he had at his disposal.’

He also mentioned that whether or not he was happy with his squad, the transfer budget was minimal.

Make of that what you will!!
