Paul Simpson has explained that he bought Wesleigh Fletcher to the club in order to increase competition in his starting line-up.

Fletcher joined The Hatters this week from Burnely and started today’s match against Barnet.

‘He has got a very good goal-scoring record both at reserve level and youth team level as well as having great movement and a fantastic attitude. I also felt we needed to add something a little bit different here.’

Simpson also revealed he is looking to bring in another new face at some point next week.

‘Barry Conlon is not yet fully fit and I am hoping we can get a deal done for another striker at some point next week.

‘We need as much competition as possible. We don’t want to be relying on players who are still in the early stages of their development and people who should be focusing on being squad players.’

Fletcher also explained his decision to move to Edgeley Park from Turf Moor.

‘I want to score lots of goals whilst I am here and I want to help Stockport County be as successful as possible.

‘At the moment it’s an initial one-month loan deal but we will have to see how things go.’

Will we see Conlon in a County shirt again? Is Fletcher being lined up to replace Donnelly if we cant grab him in January? Or is it really all about increasing compeitition up front?

Conlon was on the subs bench. Although I must say that I am not keen on the guy. Just hope that with another striker coming in this week we may have seen the last of Conlon.

Know what you mean M.Albert as I found it strangely/worryingly amusing when I saw Conlon warming up as I knew that (god forbid) if he came on as a sub that he would add nothing more to the game other than that off amusement value….he is clueless at best but have faith in Simmo as he knows as we do that he (Conlon) is clueless but what can Simmo do ??!!, I believe that Simmo also know’s where we need to add quality to the side but quality is not easy to find.
