Paul Simpson has been removed from his position as Stockport County manager after less than six months at the helm.
The club have released a statement thanking Simpson for his efforts, and saying Peter Ward will take the role as caretaker manager while a new gaffer is found.
The club also say the fans can look forward to four or five new players joining the club this month.

Not a major shock to me. It is true he has had to work with hardly anything but really, what has hung him is that he brought the players in and it was very much Simpsons team. We are staring down the barrel of a gun right now so something had to be done.
What that something turns out to be I have no idea!
Had to be. Feel sorry for Simpson a bit but when push came to shove he and his team were just not up to the (difficult) job.
Lets get behind Peter during this very trying time to keep the club in the league. With the promise of some new blood and I will assume a different game plan on the pitch there may just be a light at the end of the tunnel.
I see the official site mentions 4-5 new faces. Presumably NOT chosen by Simpson and chosen by…. by who? I don’t buy the fact a list of names has already been handed into the owners. What is very strongly rumoured is this list was put together a while ago. Simpson was a dead man walking and was always going to be moved on. Now… if these rumours are right then I do feel a bit uncomfortable with the goings-on behind Simmos back but the end result is correct I think.
I wonder whether Wardy will have the job until the end of the season?
I feel for Simmo as well, it was never going to be an easy job, whoever came in,but he did bring quite a few players in and they are the ones who let him down. good luck to Wardy (he will need it) now we will see what Saturday brings. Also good luck to Paul Simpson in finding a new club.
Am I being wound up? Phone call from a ‘well-known’ County fan and it is Andy Preece as manager with Ward as No.2 and Mr Anthony Elding as one of the signing? Surely not?!

I feeel for Simmo every manager needs investment but on saying that he did bring players in who were/are poor at best then he inherited the likes of Tansey Rowe Pilkington Turnbull who for ne are not good enough.
The board have a lot to answer for …yes they saved us from extinction but we are dying a slow death at the moment, Wardy will have his work cut out cause he still will have to work with the personel that Simmo brought in and they are clearly not good enough. No doubt all the rumours will begin now …I hear that Darren Ferguson is interested along with Jose Mourinho, Pele, Rafa Benitez and the Great Man Nelson Mandella ….good luck guys
