Simpson blasts County character

Simpson made no excuses for his side’s woeful showing against Morecambe and admitted they were totally outclassed.

When it was suggested to him, that he could take some positives from the ‘terrific spirit’ his side showed towards the end of the game he responded:

”I have to disagree with you, I don’t think they’ve shown any spirit throughout the entire 90 minutes. We were spiritless, characterless and we deserved nothing out the game, the goals we gave away were absolutely diabolical.

”Shuker is 5 foot 7 at best and he’s standing on his tip-toes and he wins the header in the box. We didn’t expect this from them, in the past few weeks we’ve had some character and spirit about us in the last few weeks both in training and in the games.

”There’s no explanation for it, but it’s easy for them because they can hide behind me getting abused. I just wonder sometimes whether some of these players really care about the job and whether they realise what a dog fight we’re in and what we have to do to get out of it

”The most basic thing in football is to work hard, even more basic than passing a ball, and we haven’t worked hard enough today. We’ve allowed them to coast through a game, at home, in front of our own supporters.”

Simpson went on to reveal that his team would be three players lighter by this time tomorrow as leading goal-scorer George Donnelly returns to Plymouth and Tom Aldred and Anthony Pulis will also now depart the club.

”The likelihood is that all three players will leave tonight. Plymouth have accepted a bid from a conference club. We would love to keep all of them but the fact is we can’t offer anything to Plymouth, certainly not in terms of wages.

I agree with Simmo the players I saw against a really poor Morcambe side had no fight whatsoever they did not want it in my opinion, even really really good players like Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Giggs, Tevez, Fletcher and the like have one thing in common apart from being class players …they work and fight hard for their respective teams then you have the opposit end of the football world like Pullis, Tansey, Poole etc etc who are not that good but dont appear to want to pull their tripe out for the cause and give their all.
My goodness we are a poor side (as bad as I have seen) and Simmo has to take a large portion of the blame for that but certainly not all of it. If your players are not up for the fight then you do not stand a chance.

edgeley your quote,,, If players are not up for the fight then you do not stand a chance,,, of the 18 players on show last night 11 were brought in by Simmo. That in it’s self tells me that he is not up to the job. No good moaning about players not being commited Simmo this is all self inflicted. Why did he keep Pulis, Fletcher and even Donnelly on after there monthly contracts were up? With regards to Donnelly, we knew that he was going to leave because we could not afford him, so why perservere with a player that is never going to sign for you. He really has not done a great deal over the last couple of months. Yes a runs around a lot but I thought that he was brought here as a goal scorer. The same with Fletcher, he has not really done what was expected from him. Now that he has go rid of three players can we now see some action in the transfer period? We need some players that have got some experience. Age doesn’t really matter at this stage. Lester at 35….. showed us that last week.

Who’s the guy who commentates for the County games for Pure Radio? he must be watching a different game than me making positive remarks about our commitment and desire from our players…something I (and Simmo) am not seeing in any way whatsoever…someone should tell him that you can never kid football fans …maybe he should think about commentating on a different sport

  • edgeley says:

MA im not excusing Simmo and did say that he should take a massive percentage of blame and yes he did bring in a lot of players but they (the players) have to want the fight and they clearly are not up for it……..is that Simmo’s fault? I dont believe it is but he will get the blame as the buck stops with him….we dont have the luxury of shipping them out cause tehy are under contract and we dont have the money to bring anyone else in

We have been here before with team ‘performances’ like yesterday. Simpson said more or less the same thing. Nothing changes. That is the worry. This is Simpsons team. HE has to sort it. The buck stops with HIM. If he does not get the bullet or resign then as County fans we have to support him and all pull togther. Will the players get the message. There aint no quality but anything less than 100% graft is unacceptable. Desperate times.

edgeley there is only 1 person responsible and that is Simmo, he brought these players in that he now says are not performing with no commitment. He can’t blame the admin people for this, he bought the likes of Conlon here who in their right mind would give him a contract? I understand that the admin people gave contracts ot players that were not up to it. But Simmo got rid of some of those and brought in this spineless bunch that are here now, even the ones that he brought in on loan. The man is just not up to managing a football club at this level. It needs someone with some experience of fighting your way out of a situation like were in. Like I said ealier I would give Peter Ward a go he can’t be any worse, plus it would leave Simmo’s wages for bringing in some new blood.
