Stockport is BUZZING!

Seven wins on the trot. No goals conceded, the best team in the country is playing at Edgeley Park at the moment and everybody is talking about Stockport County once again.

You can go even further when you say that the only team to take any points from Edgeley Park in the last nine games were Macclesfield. It’s been nine wins out of the last ten league games, and just four goals conceded in the last ten league games – all of which came in one game.

The town is buzzing. People are talking about County ‘Oh they’re doing well aren’t they’. Even my uncle, who is an avid Manchester United fan and teased me for the last eight years about County being awful, is considering coming to Edgeley Park tomorrow night.

The team have found the fantastic blend. You’ve got the attacking prowess of Adam Proudlock, Anthony Elding, Tes Bramble and Anthony Pilkington – whatever partnership they play in they cause problems.

In midfield you’ve got the general Jason Taylor who deserves an England place more than Frank Lampard, you’ve got David Poole and Adam Griffin giving the wide option, and now we’ve just added Dominic Blizzard who has done the ‘ugly’ job in the last two games. Failing that you’ve only got Tony Dinning on the bench.

Then you’ve got the back four. Winterburn, Adams, Bould and Dixon. Sorry, Rose, Williams, Owen and Clare. You might aswell call them the first four though, that is what they have been playing like in the last seven games.

And finally you’ve got the huge Welsh figure of Wayne Hennessey. 630 minutes in a Stockport County dazzling Orange goalkeeper’s shirt and 630 minutes without conceding a goal. Add a Welsh Under 21 game to that and your approaching 700 minutes without conceding, nearly 12 hours.

All this sounds even better when you consider that on the 12th September 2006 we got thrashed 3-0 by Shrewsbury Town in a gutless and passionless performance and the team were booed off the pitch. That loss left us in 23rd position, and a table that read well for the North-West – the bottom five teams were Macclesfield, County, Accrington, Bury and Rochdale.

25 games later we are now 6th in the league, six points from an automatic promotion spot and just eight points from first place. Just to consolidate our league position, the team in eight, Notts County, have 46 points making us 10 points clear from dropping out of the play-offs.

The HUGE promotion push starts tomorrow night with a home game against league leaders Walsall. OK, ticket prices might be a tad expensive, but it is WELL WORTH IT. Get yourself and everybody you know down to Edgeley Park and YOU can be a part of it. Take in the great atmosphere and the great football and get behind the boys in blue.

COME ON COUNTY!
