After two weeks of voting, the poll has been closed and the results are in for the Stockport County Vital Football player of the season award.

There were 14 candidates in total, and all of them received votes.

Instead of listing all 14 candidates and their percentages, we’ll stick to the top four.

You can view the full results by accessing the polls page on the club menu tab.

But in fourth place for the 2006/2007 season is ANTHONY ELDING.

Elding signed in January, but finished the season as the club’s top scorer. He scored 11 goals in 20 starts since signing from Boston at the beginning of the year.

In third place, GARETH OWEN.

Gareth signed permanently today, but in the 06/07 season he played as a season-long loan from Oldham Athletic. Towards the end of the season he was made club captain, and he was a rock in the heart of defence all season long. Great signing, good season Gareth.

In second place, with 30% of the votes ASHLEY WILLIAMS.

Ashley has been constantly under the microscope from higher clubs, with several Championship clubs making bids in January and one £500,000 bid being turned down. Ash was the other rock alongside Gareth Owen, and they formed a formidable partnership in defence. He even scored a 40-yard beauty at Rochdale, hopefully he’ll be here next season to partner Gareth Owen.

But the winner, by just 1% and securing a historical Vital Football clean sweep, by collecting both the young player, and player of the season award, is JASON TAYLOR.

Jason has come on leaps and bounds this season. He has been the heartbeat of the team in midfield. In the 05/06 season he looked like he wouldn’t be a good loan signing, but Jim and Wardy turned him into a permanent signing and worked on him. He has since become a huge part of the team and is the first name on the teamsheet every week. Congratulations Jason.

The next vote is for goal of the season, vote on the right hand side of the site now!

Thats almost all the spine of a very decent team. Two top centre halves, a striker and a centre midfielder…. oh for a decent keeper! On that subject whats the score with Ruddy anyone?

Really can’t see us getting Ruddy back. 🙁
I have a pair of his gloves, if that helps!!!! Would love to see him back at EP…
